On Saturday, May 19, ten of New Covenants Track & Field athletes competed in the team’s first ever the Division II VISAA State Track & Field Championship. The meet was held in the rain at Sports Backers Stadium in Richmond, Va. The team competed against 30 other schools from around the state. Senior Dakota Witt came into the meet with the second fastest time in both the 100 meter dash and the 200 meter dash. He also had qualified in the 400 meter dash and the Long Jump.
Along with Dakota, senior Josh Ivins competed in the 800 meter run, 1600 meter run and was part of the 4x400 relay team. Senior Shaefer Seay competed in the Long Jump and was part of the 4x400 relay team. Sophomore Roman Seay also competed in the Long Jump and was a member of the 4x400 relay team. Freshman Konner Johnson also competed for the guys team as a member of the 4x400 relay team.
For the ladies, senior Amy White, junior Emma Zealand, sophomore Kayla Haley, freshman Ellen Anne Deneen, and 8thgrader Madeline Duncan competed. Amy White competed in the 200 meter dash and was a member of both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams. Ellen Anne Deneen competed in the 800 meter run, the 1600 meter run and was a member of the 4x400 relay team. Emma Zealand and Madeline Duncan were both part of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams and Kayla Haley also competed as a member of the 4x100 relay team.
Dakota Witt finished 3rdin the 100 with a time of 11.86 seconds and was named as a member of the All-State Team. Along with this Dakota finished 7thin the 400, 9thin the 200, and 16thin the Long Jump. Josh Ivins finished 18thin both the 800 and the 1600 meter run and the guys 4x400 team finished 12th. The guys finished with 7 points as a team and 18thoverall.
The ladies 4x100 team ran their fastest time of the season at 59.43 seconds and finished 7th. Along with this, the ladies 4x400 team finished 11thand Amy White finished 19thin the 200. Ellen Ann Deneen finished 14thin the 800 and 19thin the 1600 meter run. The ladies scored 2 points as a team and finished 22ndoverall.
